Archive for the ‘Vancouver tourism’ CategoryIn what time zone is Vancouver,BC, Canada?Vancouver is Pacific Standard Time (UTC/GMT -8 hours) Why do people think that the Rockies can be seen from Vancouver?I’ve met more than enough people, adults included, who believe for whatever reasons that the Rocky Mountains can be seen from Vancouver. Why? Haven’t they looked at a map? How on Earth could someone possibly see them from Vancouver? Vancouver is in the very south-western corner of the entire country of Canada. The Rockies are on the border between B.C. and Alberta. People tend to refer to all the west coast mountain chains as “the Rockies”. They don’t realize that there are actually multiple chains. They think that because they can see mountains from Vancouver, they must be the Rockies. What are some good hiking places around the Vancouver, BC area?I am going on vacation to Vancouver, Canada. I would like recommendations on good hiking spots within 2 hrs. driving distance from Vancouver. All of Vancouver Island is fantastic! It really depends on your level. Source(s): Is it true that Vancouver, Canada and Sydney, Australia looks the same?Besides from the Opera House, the City, and the Sydney Harbor Bridge do Sydney and Vancouver look at same? I mean do both of the places clean? Do they have nice people? Do they have the same kind of shores? I’ve been to both cities and I don’t think they look the same. Sydney has no mountains, but Sydney harbour looks nice and blue. Vancouver harbour is kind of dark and cold, but unlike Sydney it has float planes coming and going. Whats the population of Vancouver CAN and where is the highest japenese population living outside japan? The highest population of Japanese living abroad is in U.S.A. The population of Vancouver Canada is about 600,000(2003) What is the cost of living in Vancouver?I recently graduated from an American university with a degree in journalism, and I am thinking about working abroad in Canada through a work abroad program. I’m trying to determine if it is feasible for me to stay in Vancouver or Toronto for six months, knowing I probably will not have a high paying job (e. g. bar, resteraunt, book store). Does anyone know what the cost of living is in Vancouver and Toronto? I suspect it is high, but I can only stay in the country for six months at most. You may want to go on to this site and search the discussion forum for information on Vancouver. http://www.discovervancouver.com/… The cost of living is always relative to what you are able to earn so if you are in a lower paying position you would have less money to live on which can make it tough in Vancouver. The cost of rent, groceries, transportation, etc can be considered high especially in the downtown core. As for Toronto you might be able to find someone on the Vancouver discussion forum from Toronto who has moved to Vancouver to help with comparisons. ……………….. Vancouver is a very expensive place to live, if you want to live in BC try a city outside of Vancouver, there is Surrey, Burnaby, Delta, Coquitlam. They have a skytrain that will take you there, may buses, etc. ………………. yes, Vancouver is an expensive place to live.. but as far as living in an outlying suburb - unless its the north shore mountains or north Burnaby or Coquitlam - you might as well be living in any other strip-mall suburb in North America.. Assuming in fact you crave the urban experience: my recommendation would be either the West End or East Van.. West End - high pop. desity, rivalling Manhattan, cosmopolitan and still some reasonable rents in some of the older walkups East Van - traditionally the working class side of town, Main St or Commercial Drive areas would be decent places to live.. If you can find somewhere in Strathcona would be great. bear in mind that real estate prices and the upcoming Olympics are propelling massive gentrification. Typically, rents for even a small bachelor in one of the aforementioned areas will start at a min. of $6-700 CAD. East Van offers a lot of shared accomodation options (houses) that can be more affordable.. FYI cost of living is pretty comparable between Vancouver and Toronto . although the former has a considerably milder winter - which should be a consideration if you are here for 6mos. …………………………. I don’t know why you wouldn’t try and get a job in journalism, but whatever. Minimum wage in BC is $8/hr. If you worked a bar or restaurant standard tipping rate is about 15%. Rent will coast anywhere from $500-900 for a one bedroom apartment, depending on the area, city etc. However there is a shortage of workers in BC, and there is no reason why you should be looking for a minimum wage job with a degree! Average wage in Vancouver City?I am moving to Vancouver at the end of this month, and was wondering what the average, and minimum wages are. In British Columbia there is TWO min wages $6/hr and $8/hr. If you are young they can pay you the “training wage.” It is really stupid. Average wage is depending on what you do. Retail pays pretty low! If you have training and skills it is the same as any major city….. Will be visiting Vancouver in mid march 2007. How to get to the Rockies? What’s the cheapest transport to the Rockies frm Vancouver? And, where and when does the transport depart? Greyhound leaves about 4 times a day from PACIFIC CENTRAL STATION, 1150 STATION STREET. Cost is $115 Trains leave from the same place for $135. Source(s): Is Granville Island, Vancouver, Canada a good place to go?Yes, it is. Granville Island is practically in the middle of Vancouver, and is full of funky little shops and boutiques plus a huge farmer’s market. From Granville Island you can take the Aquabus (a little water bus) that runs from Science World at the foot of False Creek, to Granville Island, the Maritime Museum, Sunset Beach and several other spots along the way. It zig zags from one side of the Creek to the other. If your friend is interested in skiing, Grouse, Seymour, Hollyburn and Cypress ski hills are all there. If he wants to hop on a bus, he can tour the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler ski resort. But back in Vancouver, there are lots of tourist attractions, ranging from Stanley Park and the Aquarium to the Teahouse at Ferguson Point, the University of BC Museum of Mankind, which has some magnificent pieces of First Nations work; Richmond’s Buddhist Temples and enormous oriental markets and bazaars are good fun for shopping — the list goes on and on. Check out HelloBC.com for a few more suggestions. Why don’t you come with your friend. You’d both enjoy Vancouver! ……………….. It has a great market with fresh fresh food and also nice restaurant and small art store … just love it http://www.granvilleisland.bc.ca/… Your friend can also visits : Granville island : http://www.granvilleisland.bc.ca/…… Victoria : http://www.granvilleisland.bc.ca/…… Why is Vancouver international airport called ‘YVR’?Most airport codes are the first 3 letters of the city name, example Boston (BOS), Atlanta (ATL), with some exceptions. Because the Canadian Government wanted the “Y” letter as the first letter for its airports and they got it! So there we have it… YVR Y -canada, VR - VancouveR Some airports in Canada, note all have Y in front! YBG BAGOTVILLE, QC |
