Very Romantic. Great Food. And a Signature Wine List. Very fine place to dine.

……………….

I dined at a very nice restaurant last night recommended by a good friend of mine.

The restaurant is called “Chambar”, it is located at 562 Beatty Street (between Pender and Dunsmuir). The Food was excellent and at a reasonable price. The Waiter and waitress who took care of my date and I were very affable and provided excellent, Friendly Service. The Food is Belgian Faire, their menu generally has 5-7 items priced anywhere from 22-30 dollars. I had Arctic Char (white fish) on a bed of Risotto that had a nice lemony zip. I also sampled my date’s Mussels and Veal. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat. The atmosphere is cozy (Leather seats, warm pain on the walls, nice hardwood floors, comfortable chairs). I hope this information is useful to you.

…………………

The Blue Water Cafe (1095 Hamilton Street) is in this really cool heritage buiding in Yaletown. If you like seafood, this is as romantic as it gets.

When I visited Vancouver, my fiance and I loved The Savoury Coast. I think it was on Robson. Delicious food and nice atmosphere.

Well iam an iranian girl that planning to study in vancouver universities…and i will take the toefl exam next months…

If i get the enough score on my toefl that every universities accept me as a college student..then i want to know is it enough for me just to pass the toefl exam and shows all my education documents

As long as the university confirmed you as its students, they will assist you with your visa, don’t worry. For updates, check the Embassy office

i think that even though u have toefl, u’ll still need to take the LPI once u get into a university. here are some universities:
www.ubc.ca (beautiful campus, love it)
www.sfu.ca
www.kwantlen.bc.ca
as for the visa, sorry but i don’t really have any idea but once u’re accepted in a uni, it shouldn’t be hard to get.

Canada is proud to be multicultural country while America is a “melting pot” with a big concern whom to melt after 9/11 … So you have more chances to get a visa to Canada…

The name of the train from Vancouver,BC to Alasksa?

Does anyone know the name of the train that runs along the British Columbia coast line from I believe Vancouver to Alaska-more than likely Juneau or Anchorage? I used to live in Seattle in the early 1990’s and saw it andvertised many times! Just wanted to know the name and if it still operates? The cost would be nice should you have that information also! (It’s a tourist train )

There is no line that goes along the coast of BC to Alaska but there is The Rocky Mountaineer train that goes through some beautiful country in BC but it won’t get you to Alaska.

Why do people think that the Rockies can be seen from Vancouver?

I’ve met more than enough people, adults included, who believe for whatever reasons that the Rocky Mountains can be seen from Vancouver. Why? Haven’t they looked at a map? How on Earth could someone possibly see them from Vancouver? Vancouver is in the very south-western corner of the entire country of Canada. The Rockies are on the border between B.C. and Alberta.

People tend to refer to all the west coast mountain chains as “the Rockies”. They don’t realize that there are actually multiple chains. They think that because they can see mountains from Vancouver, they must be the Rockies.

Is it true that Vancouver, Canada and Sydney, Australia looks the same?

Besides from the Opera House, the City, and the Sydney Harbor Bridge do Sydney and Vancouver look at same? I mean do both of the places clean? Do they have nice people? Do they have the same kind of shores?

I’ve been to both cities and I don’t think they look the same. Sydney has no mountains, but Sydney harbour looks nice and blue. Vancouver harbour is kind of dark and cold, but unlike Sydney it has float planes coming and going.

What is the cost of living in Vancouver?

I recently graduated from an American university with a degree in journalism, and I am thinking about working abroad in Canada through a work abroad program. I’m trying to determine if it is feasible for me to stay in Vancouver or Toronto for six months, knowing I probably will not have a high paying job (e. g. bar, resteraunt, book store). Does anyone know what the cost of living is in Vancouver and Toronto? I suspect it is high, but I can only stay in the country for six months at most.

You may want to go on to this site and search the discussion forum for information on Vancouver.

http://www.discovervancouver.com/…

The cost of living is always relative to what you are able to earn so if you are in a lower paying position you would have less money to live on which can make it tough in Vancouver. The cost of rent, groceries, transportation, etc can be considered high especially in the downtown core. As for Toronto you might be able to find someone on the Vancouver discussion forum from Toronto who has moved to Vancouver to help with comparisons.

………………..

Vancouver is a very expensive place to live, if you want to live in BC try a city outside of Vancouver, there is Surrey, Burnaby, Delta, Coquitlam. They have a skytrain that will take you there, may buses, etc.

……………….

yes, Vancouver is an expensive place to live.. but as far as living in an outlying suburb - unless its the north shore mountains or north Burnaby or Coquitlam - you might as well be living in any other strip-mall suburb in North America..

Assuming in fact you crave the urban experience: my recommendation would be either the West End or East Van..

West End - high pop. desity, rivalling Manhattan, cosmopolitan and still some reasonable rents in some of the older walkups

East Van - traditionally the working class side of town, Main St or Commercial Drive areas would be decent places to live.. If you can find somewhere in Strathcona would be great.

bear in mind that real estate prices and the upcoming Olympics are propelling massive gentrification.

Typically, rents for even a small bachelor in one of the aforementioned areas will start at a min. of $6-700 CAD. East Van offers a lot of shared accomodation options (houses) that can be more affordable..

FYI cost of living is pretty comparable between Vancouver and Toronto . although the former has a considerably milder winter - which should be a consideration if you are here for 6mos.

………………………….

I don’t know why you wouldn’t try and get a job in journalism, but whatever.

Minimum wage in BC is $8/hr. If you worked a bar or restaurant standard tipping rate is about 15%. Rent will coast anywhere from $500-900 for a one bedroom apartment, depending on the area, city etc.

However there is a shortage of workers in BC, and there is no reason why you should be looking for a minimum wage job with a degree!
