Average wage in Vancouver City?

I am moving to Vancouver at the end of this month, and was wondering what the average, and minimum wages are.

In British Columbia there is TWO min wages $6/hr and $8/hr. If you are young they can pay you the “training wage.” It is really stupid. Average wage is depending on what you do. Retail pays pretty low! If you have training and skills it is the same as any major city…..

Will be visiting Vancouver in mid march 2007. How to get to the Rockies?

What’s the cheapest transport to the Rockies frm Vancouver? And, where and when does the transport depart?

Greyhound leaves about 4 times a day from PACIFIC CENTRAL STATION, 1150 STATION STREET. Cost is $115

Trains leave from the same place for $135.

Is Granville Island, Vancouver, Canada a good place to go?

Yes, it is. Granville Island is practically in the middle of Vancouver, and is full of funky little shops and boutiques plus a huge farmer’s market. From Granville Island you can take the Aquabus (a little water bus) that runs from Science World at the foot of False Creek, to Granville Island, the Maritime Museum, Sunset Beach and several other spots along the way. It zig zags from one side of the Creek to the other. If your friend is interested in skiing, Grouse, Seymour, Hollyburn and Cypress ski hills are all there. If he wants to hop on a bus, he can tour the site of the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler ski resort. But back in Vancouver, there are lots of tourist attractions, ranging from Stanley Park and the Aquarium to the Teahouse at Ferguson Point, the University of BC Museum of Mankind, which has some magnificent pieces of First Nations work; Richmond’s Buddhist Temples and enormous oriental markets and bazaars are good fun for shopping — the list goes on and on. Check out HelloBC.com for a few more suggestions. Why don’t you come with your friend. You’d both enjoy Vancouver!

I live in Vancouver Canada. Are they any Sharks in the waters where I live?

I live in Vancouver Canada. Are they any Sharks in the waters where I live?

You betcha! There are lots of different kinds of sharks near you. They range from puny (68 cm) to pretty freakin’ huge (980 cm).

…………..

Yes, they exist but personally I’ve never see sharks on the waters nearby Vancouver, maybe we scare them…

…………………

I would have to say yes there are sharks in your area. I am from southern california and I have surfed for over ten years. I have also visited vancouver several times but never for surf. Almost every area of the ocean has sharks it is just a matter of what kind of sharks. Great whites a attracted to cold water and you have plenty of that in vancouver. I know for certain that northern california and above states have a high concentration of great white sharks. You are right on the border so I would assume the same for you. Remember that you have better odds of getting struck by lighning then getting attacked by a shark. I hope this helps. Enjoy the ocean and be sure to always respect

Why is Vancouver international airport called ‘YVR’?

Most airport codes are the first 3 letters of the city name, example Boston (BOS), Atlanta (ATL), with some exceptions.

Because the Canadian Government wanted the “Y” letter as the first letter for its airports and they got it!

So there we have it… YVR Y -canada, VR - VancouveR

Some airports in Canada, note all have Y in front!

YBG BAGOTVILLE, QC
YYC CALGARY, AB
YYG CHARLOTTETOWN, PE
YEG EDMONTON, AB

Going to Vancouver/Canada. now IELTS or TOEFL ?

I tend to speak more american english than british though both of the universities there accept both IELTS and TOEFL.
But from your opinion which one is really better for me that going to be in vancouver at least for 2 years ?

Definitely IELTS. TOEFL doesn’t really test for anything and is being used less often. Plus it runs out in two years. For real world English go for IELTS. Have a good time in Vancouver, it’s a beautiful city.

Traveling to Vancouver…What to wear?

I am traveling to Vancouver next week, and I saw that the temps will be in the high 60s during the day. Since I am from the south US, I am so not used to this type of weather in the summer. I am going to bring long sleeve shirts and such, but what type of shoes should I bring? Is it too cold to wear open toe shoes?

It’s pritty rainy in vancouver, especially in Winter. We have been enjoying a non-stop pre-Christmas rain for last four days; it’s just stopped and WOW sun is here… Cold and windy, not so cold as in Antarktida or Toronto but I am pretty sure a warm jacket or coat will be just right; hat - you can survive without it as well as without muttens but better to have them.. Do not forget umbrella… Have fun!
……………….

It’s summer! You don’t need long sleeve shirts and such. Bring one if you want protection from the sun. And please do wear open toed shoes. When you arrive, you’ll see most of the women are wearing tank tops or sun tops of some kind, and mostly they will be in shorts or very light weight cotton skirts. And wearing flip flops or sandals.
The exceptions will be people who work indoors in air conditioned offices, who still feel compelled to wear suits, ties and that sort of thing. But they shuck them off as soon as they leave work.
Vancouver is very casual, very laid back, and lovely in the summer. The evenings can get a bit on the cool side (although they haven’t lately) so you might want to bring ONE light sweater or jacket to wear in the evening.
Have a wonderful time in our city. Hope you’re here for the Festival of Lights — the international fireworks competition that is on this coming Saturday, next Wednesday and the following Saturday night. If you’re staying in the downtown area, you’re in luck — it’s free, and about 400,000 people attend.

……………..

Last summer, I mean 2006 was unusual dry and hot. We enjoyed it. But usually more likely than not you have rain all day on Saturdays-Sunday in summer days, not sure why…

Relocation to Vancouver from the US??

i am moving to vancouver canada, and i need the 101, basic

HOW TO MOVE TO CANADA?

im not looking to relocate permantely, just for 4 years at least, so i need my work permit? or if im staying for that long do i need to appy for my permant residency?
what forms do i need to show at the boarder? basically… what do i need to do? the very very very basic of stuff to know.
and if i decide to apply for residency what forms to do i need to have, ect.

that would be so so so so helpfull!!!

Answer 1: go to ; www.canada.gc.ca for all info

Answer 2: Assuming that you are an American citizen, single and/or your spouse is not Canadian citizen (landed resident) - yuo can stay in Canada for not more than 6 months; you do not need anything, show your passport or other proof of your American status at the border (check airport rules, they may demand a passport and may not be satisfied with other documents) and go. American citizens as well as citisens of other countires can not work in Canada without a work permit, in most cases it’s very difficult to get a work permit. As a American citizen, hold a College diploma/ University degree and work experience is some particular professional areas you can get Trade Nafta instant work permit for one-year; otherwise you need to stay in a long line for landed status. There are some special programs for temporary workers mostly in labour/ construction/ but not sure if it’s for you…it’s easier for students to get a work permit but you need to be accepted in a Canadian college/ university and pay for your education first…

Hostels or hotels in Vancouver?

Travling to Canada early march and looking for places to stay in both Toronto & Vancouver any email/webs sites for cheap hotels/hostels that can be recomended would be great & any place to visit.

I live in Vancouver. I can only comment on that city. Honestly, if you are budgeting how much time to spend in each of the two cities, you should plan on spending more time in Vancouver than Toronto, as there is far more to do here than in Toronto.

Some of the cheap Vancouver hotels that you can check out are Budget Inn Patricia Hotel, Vancouver Centre Travelodge, Biltmore Hotel, City Center Motor Hotel, Days Inn Vancouver Metro, Bosmans Hotel, Howard Johnson Hotel Vancouver, Coast Vancouver Airport Hotel, Dominion Hotel and the Greenbrier Hotel. There are also budget hotels and backpackers hostels, some of which are not recommended. Be aware that you get what you pay for. You may wish to check out the following Web links:

One of the best of the cheaper downtown hotels is Days Inn - Vancouver Downtown. You can view a short description at: http://www.daysinn.com/daysinn/control/b…

In terms of what to do in Vancouver, well, the Tourism Vancouver Web site provides much of the information that you need. If I had limited time, I would make sure that I visited the following: Stanley Park, Granville Island, Gastown, Chinatown, Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. Of course, you can spend many days exploring the city, but you should be able to fit all of those attractions in within three days or so.

Enjoy your visit!
