Rain and wind warnings for Lower Mainland
Rain and wind warnings remain in effect for Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Howe Sound. And the worst of this weather system is expected to arrive later today. It’s our old friend the “Pineapple Express” making a late winter appearance. As of early this morning YVR had received around 20 millimetres of rain, but Greg Pearce with Environment Canada says a lot more is on the way. “Greater Vancouver could see another 40-50 mm, but North Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Moody…all of the North Shore, could receive up to 100 more millimetres by Monday.”
Pearce says the mountain snowpack is absorbing a lot of the rain, so dont expect any major river flooding, just a rapid rise in creek levels.
Strong winds will arrive later tonight 50 to 70 kilometres per hour in the city, up to 90 k in the Fraser Valley, but Pearce says it won’t be as intense as the devastating storms of November and December.
