Thousands joined Evergreen in Jericho Beach Park for a free, family-oriented day of celebration, restoration, and fun.
This year’s Earth Day Vancouver Celebration is poised to be the best yet. Boasting a line up that includes world-renowned singer, author, and ecology advocate Raffi Cavoukian — founder of Child Honouring, a children-first paradigm for global restoration and this year’s Honorary Chair of Earth Day Vancouver - there is a little something for everyone.
This year, Evergreen, the Jericho Stewardship Group and the Vancouver Parks Boards are working together to give the public a unique chance to remove habitat-destroying invasive species and replace them with native plants. Children can plant a tiny cedar tree.
“Stewardship can make Jericho a better place, not only for the wildlife that depends on it for survival, but for park visitors as well,” says Dawn Hanna, chair of the Jericho Stewardship Group.
The Celebration also encourages everyone to get active. Ride your bike and enjoy Bike Valet Parking and a checkup at the Pedal BikeFix Station. You can also march along with the Carnival Band and active-transportation hero Dustin the Purple Pirate, take a free nature tour, guided by Nature Vancouver, enjoy eco-themed activities, demos, roving performers and surprises. Help the Secret Lantern Society create an Earth Mandala on the beach!
