A series of dognappings around the Lower Mainland has one victim urging potential owners not to buy stolen pups. Lisa Lloyd’s two pups, Tito (a miniature chihuahua) and Jefe (a pitbull cross) were stolen from her garden suite near Grandview and Renfrew Friday afternoon. She’s urging potential owners to avoid deals that may seem like a steal, because they just might be. “The person that lost their dog is going to be frantic and it’s such bad karma, putting someone through such misery.”
Yesterday a woman wearing a fake ‘Animal Control’ vest stole a 3.5 month old Black Lab from a home in Burnaby on 16th Avenue near 6th Street. A neighbour saw it all and later confronted the woman who claimed she worked for Animal Control and was seizing the puppy. Only when the dog’s owner called the SPCA did she realize her pooch had been stolen.
The woman is described as white, in her 30’s, 5′11 with a medium build. She was wearing her blond hair in a ponytail. She was also wearing black clothes with a vest that said “Animal Control” on it. Her accomplice is described as a white man with black hair and a medium build. They were driving a white cargo van. If you have any information, call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
Last Thursday a man walking his dog near West Vancouver’s Glen Eagles golf course was beat up for his dog in what police believe to be a targeted attack. A string of dognappings in Victoria last March led police to believe drug addicts may be cashing in as ‘dishonest finders’.
