A rally is just getting underway outside BC Supreme Court in Vancouver where Shell Canada is seeking an injunction against a native blockade in northern BC.
First Nations and others concerned about Shell’s coalbed methane project at the head of BC’s so-called sacred headwaters are protesting today.
Shell lawyers are trying to obtain an injunction that could lead to arrests as early as next week if a First Nations blockade doesn’t come down.
The area in question, south of Dease Lake, is the traditional territory of the Tahltan First Nation, who say they were never consulted before the province, sold Shell tenure in the area.
They’re also concerned about effects on nearby salmon bearing rivers.
