Some Canada Border Services agents now carrying guns
Canada Border Services agents have more than just batons and pepper spray to protect themselves. Eighty officers that have received fire arms training have now been deployed across the country. Speaking on behalf of Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day, Langley MP Mark Warawa, says they’ve been deployed at land crossings that have the most traffic and pose the highest risk. Just where they are, he won’t say for security reasons, but does say we have them at BC busiest crossings, Pacific and Peace Arch.He says one agent has already had to pull their weapon, but he won’t say where, why or when, only that the situation ended peacefully.
Warawa says while customs agents still have the right to run away if they think they’re in a dangerous situation, the fact agents in the riskiest positions will have guns, makes that much less likely to happen.
