Changes to the temporary foreign worker program are being welcomed by the head of the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association.

The pilot project will allow eligible employers needing workers in 12 specific occupations–including construction, tourism, and hospitality–to hire foreign workers faster than they were able to before.

Association president Ian Tostensen says Ottawa appears to understand the depth of the problem.

“…………….the federal government in particular has woken up to the fact that particularly in the west, in Alberta and British Columbia, that we have this chronic labour shortage–it’s not a skills shortage anymore–it’s a chronic labour shortage”

Tostensen says the labour shortage is the worst he has ever seen it.
