Still snow

“I’m so tired of people saying that we don’t know how to drive in the snow in Lower mainland. Did anyone ever tell these people that we don’t get snow in the wn=inter!? We don’t spens $800 on snow tires thata we only use two days out of the year! It’s not because we can’t drive! So lucky for us, we just stay home for two days it snows here and enjoy the rest of balmy awesome weather while you people freeze your butts off elsewhere. Who’s laughing?”
Carol Brise from Vancouver BC

B.C. woman sells Robeez to footwear giant

Toddler shoe empire builder nudges baby out of nestrobeezIt began in a basement, with one mom’s effort to make a pair of shoes that would stay on her toddler’s chubby feet.

Then, as children do, it grew, snowballing from a home-based business that spent its first five years in founder Sandra Wilson’s basement into an international retail business that now sees Robeez Footwear Ltd. shoes and booties sold in boutiques around the world and generates sales of over $15-million a year.

Three weeks ago, in the same week that the toddler who inspired her business started high school, Ms. Wilson, 46, announced the sale of her firm to a major U.S. retailer, Stride Rite Corp., for $30.5-million.

Robeez employs about 400 people and says it sells shoes in more than 4,500 shops around the world. Its sales exceed $15-million.

Spirit Bears in Vancouver

What is Spirit Bears In The City?

www.spiritbearsinthecity.com

spirit-bear-logoFound only in British Columbia northern forests, the rare “Spirit Bear” or “Kermode Bear” is widely recognized for its unique white colouring. A First Nation legend states that the Raven, their creator, made these bears white as a reminder of the time when the world was pure and clean and covered with snowdrifts and ice blue glaciers. Raven promised that these bears would live in peace and harmony forever.

This reclusive bear will travel South and congregate on the streets of Victoria , Sooke, and Nanaimo starting May 2006 in support of the BC Lions Society Easter Seal Operations and the Bear Mountain Fund. The project has already taken roots throughout BC with the eight communities committed to joining “The Spirit Bear Trail” – Vancouver, Surrey, Vancouver Island, Prince George, Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, and Whistler.

The Great Spirit Bear Auction and Gala will take place at Victoria Conference Centre. Spirit Bears from around Vancouver Island will be auctioned live by Barry Scott of Maynards Auctioneer House. The remainder of the 200 Bears will be auctioned at other gala events and online. Proceeds raised from the auction will benefit the BC Lions Society Easter Seal Services on Vancouver Island.
