‘Huge reaction’ to Vancouver 55+ job website

The company behind a new Lower Mainland job-matching website for workers aged 55 and older says it has signed up dozens of companies and more than 1,000 prospective employees in the past few weeks.
Some older workers have been finding the job market less than welcoming, with many feeling companies prefer to hire younger people they can mould.
But the current labour shortage in B.C. is changing perceptions.
Sherry Baker, president of 55plus Pros, said the response from employers and would-be employees has been overwhelming.
“We have over 1,000 people on our database right now, and we’re getting them coming in at an average of about 10 or more a day. So there’s a huge reaction. People are just delighted.”
Baker said the database is made up of some highly trained professionals, including architects, accountants and engineers.
She said some of the prospective employees want to work, while those without pensions have no choice.
For now, the service is local, but Baker said she plans to expand it across the country.
