More marketing for Canada Line businesses
Doling out more cash to promote businesses along the Canada Line is among the recommendations of a consultant reviewing construction impacts.
Lawyer and consultant Suromitra Sanatani reviewed the project’s work so far in supporting businesses along the 19-kilometre rapid transit route. She found the project’s business liaison and communications committees are effective ways for business owners to communicate with project officials.
Sanatani recommends continuing the marketing campaigns supporting businesses and directing more money at promoting them, possibly through sponsoring a gift certificate program and installing more signs in construction areas for shoppers to find their way.
The review didn’t address the possibility of direct compensation for affected businesses.
Elevated guideway construction in Richmond is now inching past Alderbridge Way. The entire line is scheduled to be complete by November 2009.
